For the production of bending-insensitive fiber Bragg grating (FBG) arrays, the fiber core provides three, high germanium fibers, SM1500 (4.2/125), SM1500 (4.2/80) and SM1500 (4.2/50). These fibers have cores that exceed 5X the germanium content of telecommunications fibers, allowing FBGs to be written with or without hydrogen loading.
The high numerical aperture (Na) of these fibers has excellent resistance to loss caused by bending. The optional "low profile" 80μm or 50mm cladding diameter can increase the test level, making these fibers ideal for high-reliability, spiral and tightly packed applications, including fiber optic hydrophones and geophones.
According to the "cold writing" technique, special coating variants are available, in which FBG is coated in the coating without removing the coating.
